Mark your calendars! This year's Boston Freedom Rally will be the best yet! Not only are we celebrating 20 years of The Rally, but its also going to be a DECRIMINALIZATION VICTORY PARTY!

Plans are already underway for the 20th Annual Boston Freedom Rally, which will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at High Noon on the Boston Common.

So far, we have lots of great bands and speakers lined up for this year's rally, look for the full list to be released soon. We're also happy to welcome back High Times Magazine and WBCN as primary sponsors of this year's rally. If you are interested in sponsoring the Rally, please contact us as soon as possible!

Remember, the Boson Freedom Rally is the 2nd largest annual gathering of pro-marijuana supporters, second only to Seattle's Hempfest. It is also takes place on the Boston Common, America's oldest public ground and the place where rights to free speech and assembly were first established.

Vending space for the 2009 Boston Freedom Rally is still available! Visit our vending info page for more details.

Can you donate a few hours of your time to help make The 20th Annual Boston Freedom Rally the best ever?

The Boston Freedom Rally is 100% run by volunteer staff. We need volunteers to help set up the stage, MassCann tent, and other areas prior to the Rally. We also need volunteers throughout the day.

Because we want everyone to be able to enjoy as much of the Rally as possible, we like to have a lot of volunteers working short shifts throughout the day.

If you are interested in volunteering on Rally Day, please let us know. Please use the link below. We know that September 19th is quite a ways off, so you won't be committed to anything just yet. We'll email you as the Rally approaches.

Again this year, local photographer/MassCann Board Member Scott Gacek is volunteering his time and talents to provide photographic coverage of the 2009 Boston Freedom Rally and many MassCann benefit events.

If you are a photo student, and would like to assist in covering the 20th Annual Boston Freedom Rally or other MassCann events, please contact:

scott@masscann.org

Video coverage has traditionally been provided by Mike Cann, who is the Music Director for the Boston Freedom Rally as well as a MassCann Board Member.

Because this is the 20th Annual Boston Freedom Rally, and we expect it to be the biggest and best Rally ever, we would like to enlist the help of a full-scale video crew to provide complete coverage of the speakers and band performances, as well as conduct interviews in the crowd  and backstage.

If you are a broadcast journalism major, communications major or film major at any of Boston's fine colleges and universities, please contact us. This could be a great addition to your reel, as well as a potential internship opportunity.

The Boston Freedom Rally would not be possible without the generous contributions of our sponsors. We're pleased to welcome back High Times Magazine and WBCN 104.1 FM as primary sponsors of this year's Rally. And of course, we would always love to have more!

Although the Freedom Rally itself is a free event for the general public, it costs MassCann thousands of dollars to produce. Please be sure to include "Freedom Rally Donation" in the memo section of your check!

The Luxury

Since 1992 the Boson Freedom Rally has featured some of Boston's best local bands and national recording artists, including some legendary performances by Sam Black Church, Tree, Letters to Cleo, Graveyard BBQ, Township, and many, many others.

As we are finalizing the line-up for this year's Boston Freedom Rally, we do have a Sonic Bids submission opportunity to find that "diamond in the rough" that we may have overlooked. As we listen to submissions, we're also looking for bands who wish to play at upcoming shows throughout the summer to benefit MassCann and the Boston Freedom Rally. The deadline to submit your EPK to us through Sonic Bids is April 1, 2009.

Selecting bands to play at the Boston Freedom Rally is not an easy task. We would love to be able to give every band who wishes to play an opportunity to do so, but unfortunately there just is not enough time in the day. Every year the musical talent in Boston gets better and better, and selecting bands for the Freedom Rally gets tougher and tougher.

Here are the Top 10 ways to help get your band on stage at the Boston Freedom Rally:

  1. Win the WBCN Rock and Roll Rumble.

  2. Play or organize a MassCann benefit show.

  3. Print up MassCann membership forms for your band's merchandise table at shows. Urge your fans to join. Tell them to be sure to include your band's name on the memo section of their membership check.

  4. Write a song or perform a song about marijuana reform or MassCann.

  5. Get your band members to join MassCann. Send your press kit or cd in with your membership dues.

  6. Make a donation. This always gets noticed. Write your band's name in the memo field of the check.

  7. Next time you see a marijuana related story in your paper, write a letter to the editor supporting reform and MassCann. Mention your band. Cross promotion works for both of us!

  8. Mention that you support the good work of a local organization called Masscann in your band media interviews. Please mention our website: http://www.masscann.org

  9. Attend member or Board meetings.

  10. Volunteer! A few years ago a hard working band called Rainshine collected thousands of signatures and got to play in front of 35,000 at the Boston Freedom Rally.

The Boston Freedom Rally is the second largest annual gathering of pro-marijuana supporters in the United States, and the largest on the east coast.

The Boston Freedom Rally is held the third Saturday in September on the Boston Common, and is attended by thousands of people. There are speakers, bands, and vendors, all in the name of cannabis awareness and drug law reform.

The 20th Annual Boston Freedom Rally will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at High Noon on the Boston Common.
